Carbon Offsets
If you can’t solve a problem, it’s because you are playing by the rules.
Carbon Credits are bought and sold through two markets, the Compliance market and the voluntary market. The compliance market is mainly used by governments, corporations and other entities that have to conform to Kyoto protocols; it is long winded, heavily regulated and expensive .IN the voluntary. Market, governments, companies and individuals all chose to purchase carbon offsets to mitigate their own green house gas emissions be they from transport, power consumption or some other function. They are not legally obliged to do so. It is important to understand the difference between these two markets.

The Market, Pricing and Trading
Each carbon offset not only helps the environment but is an asset that can be bought and sold. This additionally presents financial opportunities for governments, companies and importantly individuals. Many active in the carbon markets feel that prices will rise as demand is currently outstripping supply and many companies are trying to now become carbon neutral not only for moral reasons but also for eco responsibility and public image reasons. The voluntary market is the fastest growing segment and cheaper than buying from the compliance market and through the exchanges. In 2010, more than 160 million tons worth over US$1.2 billion. Green Earth Africa only operate in the voluntary market but has designed a new and much simplified scheme for carbon offset purchase. Our scheme allows for a company or individual to purchase their credits on a long term basis, guaranteeing them long term credits at a pr determined price which the investor can then either use for their own carbon neutrality or as an investment for onward sale. Our prices are fixed at the time of purchase for a maximum duration of ten years. The buyer has the choice of how many years he would like to purchase the credits, from a minimum of one year to a maximum of ten years.
Our Scheme
Green Earth Africa has several natural forests and game concessions under long term management lease from local communities in sub Saharan Africa. Rather than sell the carbon credits from these forests and ranches to companies and individuals through the voluntary markets, Green Earth Africa is now offering the chance for companies and individuals to purchase a sub lease on a requested number of hectares on the property currently being offered for sublease. Once the lease has been paid for, all carbon credit generated from this lease become the property of the sub lease for the number of years in which the lease agreement has been paid for. Leases are only offered on two properties at a time and once these properties have being fully subscribed, leases on the next properties are then offered for lease. This enables our management to accurately manage and account for all transactions to ensure there are no duplications. Each hectare can only be leased/sold once and once sold will be blocked off on the map using a grid system.
How many credits per hectare?
On the two forests/ranches currently being sub leased, there is an average tree count of 580 trees per hectare. Using the recognized average figure of 180 trees sequesting one ton of carbon per year, each hectare will generate approximately three (3) carbon credits per year.
How much will it cost me?
To lease one hectare will cost you US$30.00 per hectare per year. You can pay now at this price for a maximum of 10 years.
