Water offsets/credits are bought to offset your or your companies water footprint.A water footprint is the amount of water you use to live or produce a product.Every time you buy a product, water has being used to produce this product, often from the other side of the world .Water is a scarce commodity and efforts are underway to reduce water usage.To do this, legislation is being put in place to ensure companies reduce their water footprint.Some companies may not be able to reduce their water usage enough and therefore have to buy water credits to offset their excess usage.Through buying water credits, funds are used to install efficient irrigation system for agriculture, the worlds largest user of water and the water saved from these efficient systems are then credited to the buyer of these water credits.Water credits can also be bought for future use either for personal use or as an investment  and resold at a later date.
